Nekton (Journal of Fisheries and Marine Sciences) was first published in March 2021 and indexed in Google Scholar in April 2021. On April 16, 2021, it received the E-ISSN 2776-2734 and P-ISSN 2776-2742, ISSN International Center from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (Center for Data and Scientific Documentation/LIPI now BRIN). In addition, Nekton was indexed by GARUDA on October 4, 2021, and by DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) on March 21, 2024.

Starting from the issue of Vol 2 No 2, October 2022, there are changes in the article template layout such as linking citations with references when clicked. Nekton has submitted an accreditation process since 2 June 2023 and updated the appearance of article layouts from previous editions. In addition, since the March 2024 edition, the article titles displayed on the website are fully in English.
